Here’s a little secret: old filing cabinets can store more than old files. In fact, they’re perfect for keeping track of shovels, rakes and sports equipment. Flip the cabinet on its side, spray on a few coats of ColorMaster® Paint + Primer - 25% More, and before you know it, you’ll have a garage organizer that’s both fun and functional.

Dry time: 10 minutes or less

You'll need:

  • An old filing cabinet
  • Krylon® ColorMaster® Paint + Primer - 25% More in Gloss Pumpkin Orange
  • Newspaper or a drop cloth
  • Coarse grain sandpaper
  • A damp rag
  • Step 1: Set Up Your Station.

Set up a spray paint area by covering your work space with a drop cloth. Make sure that the space is well-ventilated. Before beginning your project, read the Krylon® label for safety and application instructions, and follow them accordingly.

  • Step 2: Take it Apart.

Remove the drawers from the filing cabinet, creating empty cavities.

  • Step 3: Prepare Surface.

Use the sandpaper to lightly score the filing cabinet. This removes dirt and rust and helps the paint adhere to the cabinet’s surface. Once you’re finished, wipe off any excess dirt or grime with a damp rag.

  • Step 4: Shake.

Shake the can of Krylon® ColorMaster® Paint + Primer - 25% More Gloss Pumpkin Orange thoroughly, for at least two minutes.

  • Step 5: Spray.

Spray the filing cabinet. For best results, apply light, even coats in a sweeping motion with slight overlap, starting and ending each stroke off the cabinet’s surface.

  • Step 6: Assemble.

Once the final coat of paint is completely dry, place your yard tools and sports equipment inside the empty cavities. Look at all that space!
